Indigo ZigZag cushion

Product: Cushion cover in thick handwoven cotton, dyed blue with natural indigo in a rustic style. 50x30 cm. Decorated with large circles on one side and geometric patterns on the other. Each piece is handmade, so there will be small irregularities.

Made by a community of weavers near Jaipur in India.

Story: in a small, busy village not far from the majestic Rajput city of Jaipur, there is a family textile workshop using sustainable traditional dyeing techniques.

The fabrics are decorated with a resist-dyeing technique. The patterns are applied with block stamps using a local mix of mud and gum, then covered with sawdust. They are then dried and dyed in vats in the garden. The mud mix is then removed, revealing the pattern that escaped the dye. In this workshop, natural colors are sourced locally.

Our textiles dyed here are handwoven khadi, made in another village by a cooperative of weavers located a few hours to the west. The cotton we use is unbleached, which means it is not treated with chemicals to create an even color before dyeing.

This is an important decision in our choice of producers, because the chemicals used to treat textiles can harm the environment. It matters that we make an effort at each step of production to choose a more environmentally friendly way of producing.

Wash separately in cold water because of the vegetable dyes. Do not tumble dry.
