Product: Cotton cushion cover, dyed with natural plant colors. 40 cm x 40 cm. Envelope closure. Natural indigo and madder, red "madder".

Craft: these cushions were made by a group of designers and artisans dedicated to reviving ancestral natural dyeing techniques in Bangladesh. A social project that cares about craft heritage but also about the well-being of the artisans and the promotion of sustainable, ecological practices in the textile industry. All the dyes are of local origin and, wherever possible, use waste (such as fruit peels and tree bark) or by-products to create the color.

Indigo (Indigofera tinctoria)
One of the most sought-after and recognizable colors on the planet. Indigofera tinctoria is a plant native to Bengal, commonly grown to improve soil composition between two harvests. The leaves of the shrub are soaked and fermented to produce a wide range of shades, from deep green to the radiant, highly prized indigo blue. Known as Neel in the subcontinent, this pigment was historically used in painting and as a dye for the clothing of armed forces and important figures. We use different recipes to create many shades of blue.

Madder (Rubia cordifolia), widely known in Bangladesh as Manjit, has been used as a dye since antiquity. The stems of the plant produce a rich variety of reds, traces of which are found in the remains of King Tutankhamun's tomb. Besides the value of its color, madder has medicinal benefits for the skin and is found in many apothecaries.
