Wolf and Maiden

The philosophy behind his work is clear. The simpler something is, the better it stands the test of time, and the more beautiful it becomes. Wolf and Maiden designs accessories from the best materials available, with as few wear points as possible. He believes that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, that function should dictate form, that quality materials that respect the environment make people happier, and that the Japanese and the Scandinavians know how to do good design.

Make no mistake: simple as they are, Wolf & Maiden bags are extremely well thought out. Wade is a designer first. He gets it from his father, an engineer. As a kid he learned to take apart and put back together anything he could get his hands on. That is how he can now imagine shapes that look simple but are very complex to engineer.

Wolf & Maiden gives us the chance to cherish a rare piece and pass it on in turn. It is a chance to reconnect with a tradition of quality and heritage that is so often missing today. This is the story of well-made, timeless craft, kept simple so that it lasts.

Vegetable-tanned leather

Wolf and Maiden uses leather from a tannery that has followed traditional processes, gentle on the hide and the environment, for more than 4 generations. At the foot of the Drakensberg, in the heart of Zulu country, the hides are soaked again and again in natural tannins, extracted from a local bark and plant matter. The tannins soften the leather and bring out its qualities. Finally, natural oils reveal the pigments, which are sealed with beeswax.
