Nomad

A modern-day nomad, Beshlie McKelvie is a designer whose search for inspiration has taken her to the most remote corners of the world. Her textile and photography collections draw on the anthropological work she has done in Latin America, Africa and Asia. The Mongolian adventure started as a search for textiles, but it soon became a mission to document and preserve the culture of the Kazakh nomads who live on the arid, wild peaks of the Altai.

Beshlie is back after 6 months roaming the steppes alongside the Kazakh wolf hunters of the Altai foothills in Mongolia. She brought back a wonderful record in textiles and photographs, which Storie exhibited in its Paris shop. Below you can find these beautiful prints, in limited editions of 40 signed by the artist. Her work reminds us of the cultural richness of this way of life, which is once again at risk from the pressures of the modern world and the settled, market-driven life that is slowly spreading across Central Asia. Some people are trying, against all odds, to save it and pass it on.
