Beshlie Mckelvie
A modern-day nomad, Beshlie McKelvie is a designer whose search for inspiration has taken her to the most remote corners of the world. Her textile collections draw on the anthropological work she has done in Latin America, Africa and Asia. She also actively supports social projects that preserve craft traditions. "My work brings together everything I care about: the beauty of craft traditions, the authenticity of handwork and the empowerment of marginalized women."
Her current collections support a block-printing project in Rajasthan with the NGO SEWA (Self-Employed Women's Association), weaving projects in Argentina and Bolivia, and a partnership in Kenya with MADE, a pioneer of sustainable fashion. Her next initiative is a cooperative of women textile workers in western Mongolia.
On our blog you can find Beshlie McKelvie's latest exhibition on the textile traditions of the Kazakh nomads of Mongolia.
