Khadi Towel: Cotton Dusk Pink
Product: Handwoven towel, "space dye" technique, in the pure Indian tradition, made of Khadi cotton with small twisted fringes.
Khadi cotton is both hand-spun and handwoven, which gives a softer, finer fabric. Our towels are light and very absorbent, ideal for the beach, the pool, sport, as a sarong, a tablecloth or a blanket.
Craft: Khadi is made by hand in Indian homes, from cotton, silk or wool thread spun on a wheel, or "charkha". It is woven with great respect for the environment, using few resources such as water or electricity, and it is strong and durable. Khadi is a unique Indian fabric, valued not only because it is entirely handmade, but also for its cultural meaning.
This textile tradition was revived by Mahatma Gandhi, who saw in this fabric a tool to bring financial independence to Indians across the country who would practice this craft at home. In his own words:
"The spinning wheel represents to me the hope of the masses. The masses lost their freedom, such as it was, with the disappearance of the Charkha. The Charkha supplemented the villagers' agriculture and gave it dignity."
