Product: These luxurious cushions are handmade in Paris for Storie from a beautiful, thick, hand-woven cotton made near Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. They are backed with Irish linen, and edged with a bushy cotton fringe, or with an off white piping. Envelope style cushion, no visible branding.

Craft: This fabric is made using a generations-old method of hand weaving practiced in West Africa. Storie uses a textile called Faso Dan Fani, the traditional cloth woven in Burkina Faso. Each pattern is a woven story, full of symbols. Literally, Faso Dan Fani means "loincloth of the homeland". The production of this fabric is of great economic and cultural importance to Burkina Faso.

We make these products in order to pass on the knowledge of these traditional crafts; to contribute to the correct appreciation of this intangible cultural heritage and to promote the economic autonomy of the craftsmen who produce it. We search out crafts people making contemporary craft rather than buying antique pieces in order to encourage artisans to continue producing their beautiful art.

We do sometimes buy vintage fabrics but our aim is to promote contemporary craft.

In detail: cushion 30x30cm, hand-woven 100% cotton on the front, 100% Irish linen on the back. Hand wash in warm water.
