Product : small bowl, made from a hollowed out gourd, and painstakingly decorated in fine threads of cotton. Each piece is one of a kind and entirely handmade.

Creator: These bowls are an evolution of an ancient Huichol art / craft tradition in Mexico. The Huichols are an indigenous people who mostly live in the mountainous areas of northern Jalisco and parts of Nayarit in north central Mexico.

We work with a group who seeks to promote handcrafted products from the ancestral know-how of Mexican communities. In order to fight against the extinction of exceptional traditions.

The unifying factor of this work is the colourful decoration using symbols and designs which date back centuries. One of the most common objects found using this craft are "yarn paintings", made from fibres pressed into boards coated with wax and resin and are derived from a ceremonial tablet called a neirika. Many designs retain their religious and symbolic significance.

The purchase of these products allows not only the safeguarding of a heritage threatened by globalization but also the fight against the phenomenon of massive migration which strikes Mexico, the craftsmen can thus live from their trade while continuing to transmit it from generation to generation.

In detail: Gourd crafted with wax and cotton. For decorative use only. One of a kind.
