We work with a family run mill in County Donegal, Ireland, who use the highest quality pure merino lambswool. Each scarf is designed and woven in the village of Downings on the Atlantic Wilderness Coast.
Today the company is run by WIlliam McNutt, who took the business over from his father. The family set up the mill in the 1950's weaving Donegal tweed. They became renowned in the 1970s at the height of the material's popularity and internationally renowned designers crossed the globe to collaborate with the mill on new fabric designs.
As well as being beautiful, this natural fibre is sustainable.
*Sheep are part of the natural carbon cycle, consuming the organic carbon stored in plants and converting it to wool. Fifty per cent of the weight of wool is pure organic carbon.
*Wool products have long lifespans, meaning they are used or worn longer than other textile fibre products
*Wool textile products tend to be washed less frequently at lower temperatures which has a lower impact on the environment
*Wool is readily recyclable, it counts as 1,3% of all textile fibres on the market, and 5% of the recycled fibres market
*Wool biodegrades readily on land and in water – as a protein-based fibre, wool does not contribute to microplastic pollution, unlike so many manmade fibres in the fashion industry.
